SPC 1017 - 8:00am class
Group 1: The first group had the least time to prepare for the topic presentation, having more pressure to have the work done before the deadline. This short time in other groups may cause difficulties when organizing and delegating responsibilities, but from my perception, group one was able to organize itself and prepare a concise presentation about the importance of Intercultural Communication. First group members decided to focus more in what they will present to the audience verbally than the content in the presentation, which expose a clear organization of thoughts and a good ability to express them. Some of the red flags that I was able to see were very common mistakes that we as learners commit. For example, as mispronunciation of words, which is usual due to the public speaking anxiety, or lack of simplicity while taking about technical terms. Additionally, I think some members of group one for whom respect I will not mention get paused while presenting, freezing and creating an environment of discomfort to the audience. This is normal and in my opinion is not a big deal, it just expose the lack of experience that most of us have regarding public speaking presentation, but I strongly believe that thats is the whole purpose of this class SPC 1017, prepare students like my classmates to understand and be able to prepare a presentation, using different techniques and expose ourselves so with every try we have more experience and preparation.
Regarding the presentation content and how my group three classmates expressed the topic about intercultural communication, I learned that it is the cornerstone of our interconnected world and shapes relationships, businesses and societies as ours. In the era of globalization, where people from diverse cultural backgrounds interact regularly, the ability to communicate effectively across cultures is not just advantageous, but essential. They expressed properly intercultural communication subtopics, highlighting its role in fostering understanding, promoting diversity, and contributing to personal and social growth.
According to what I learned from group three presentation, I now realize that the fundamental merits of intercultural communication lies in its ability to break down borders and build bridges between people of different cultural origins, races, religions, and ethnicities. In a world marked by globalization and greater connectivity, people frequently encounter others with different customs, languages and belief systems. Intercultural communication provides the tools necessary to successfully navigate this diversity, fostering mutual understanding and dismantling stereotypes. Finally, I now believe that intercultural communication plays a fundamental role in promoting diversity and inclusion as prove of this our Miami Dade College Community, integrated of multiple nationalities students with different backgrounds and cultures. As societies become more culturally diverse, the ability to communicate across cultural boundaries is essential to building inclusive communities. Accepting diversity not only enriches the social aspect, but also opens the potential for creativity and innovation. On my opinion regardless of the minor incidents in punctuality, difficulty to show up from some members, group three were able to effectively expose the importance of Intercultural Communication in a new connected world.
Group 2: The group number two expose about chapter nine about Communicating in Groups, its importance and the different techniques to promote efficiency within the group members. I think group two ere even more organized than us group three. They had the proper amount of time enough to do a "good looking" presentation and at the same time not procrastinating. Group two was able to capture visually the group topic about communicating in groups, using interactive images that cough the audience attention. Through the whole presentation most of the members new exactly what were they responsibilities and how they will present in a organized and smooth way. The security while talking and the confidence of some specific group two members make me feel that they know what they ere talking about. This organization did nothing more than expose the group effectiveness and preparation before and during the presentation. On the other, some group two members had similar amateur errors as group one. As for example they had some slides full of an overwhelming word sea, where we as audience just get lost on all the terminology without a concrete explanation. Regardless of that and the normal public speaking anxiety, group thee were effective in explaining types of groups as families, social groups, interest groups, service groups and virtual groups. Additionally, group two members provided clear examples that make easier to understand different mechanics of each groups. As having rules, norms that increase the effectivity of the groups. Finally, they exposed the difficulties in leading with small and big groups as for example the conflicts that are common in families, or even in working-studying groups, but also they gave some strategies to lead with this issue and promote the group cohesion and effectiveness.
Group 3: To finalized, we have group number three in which I was able to be part of. Group number three being the biggest group with more than thirteen members were the last to present. As I mentioned above while explaining my opinion about group one and two. Group three was the last one to present, while we were the last ones and had "more time" we were able to find resources as making a WhatsApp group chat to communicate properly each members' responsibilities. Our chapter was number ten, which was about Leadership and Problem Solving, A rhetorical chapter that was giving us the key to succeed and increase the group effectiveness. Some of the difficulties that we faced that was our big number of members, that make the presentation boring. While some members were able to find relevant information and examples in their respective presentation and subtopic. Some others put little effort on their slides. In my opinion that was one of our big issues. Bur regardless of that, I think we did a proper presentation, were just two people were missing and in those informational gaps other members and part of the audience intervene to elaborate more in the topic relating and environment of connection between audience and presenters. We also had some difficulties on how to access the PowerPoint presentation, that some members of the group did not have a computer that uses Microsoft, trying different ways to provide access to those respective members we take several days. Some members as Juan or Andrea took leadership roles and delegated responsibilities to the rest of the members, this expose their great leadership skills and also help the other members that were a little bit lost to fit in the group and know their respective responsibilities. I strongly believe we took several advises that Professor Sinkoff gave us, as basing our presentation more in the way of how we express and explain the different subtopics that just read from the PowerPoint losing the audience attention. Finally, the chapter help us to learn how important leaders are in the groups effectiveness, different strategies to address problems that we sadly faced and how we can delegate different toles that are in the individual capacity of each member. By just being our first presentation and having just a couple of online classes I think we did pretty acceptable, and were able to face the public speaking anxiety without losing the audience attention and either what we were talking about.
